
The Lee County Black History Society, Inc. proudly presents an incredible opportunity for high school seniors eager to pursue their higher education dreams. The 2025 Igniting the Future College Scholarship invites students to take a powerful step towards their aspirations.
**Application Details:** – **Deadline:** Applications are due by May 25, 2025. **Eligibility Requirements:** – Candidates must be seniors currently attending a Lee County high school. – An overall GPA of 2.5 to 3.8 qualifies for Emerging Scholar status, while those with a GPA of 3.9 and above are eligible for Igniting the Future. – Applicants must complete the application and include a short essay (please refer to the application for the essay prompt).
**Undergraduate Requirements:** – A copy of your most recent transcript must accompany the application. – Applicants must be seniors at the time of application for undergraduate scholarships (the graduate scholarship is for those who have completed an undergraduate degree). – Candidates must be residents of Lee County and graduating from a Lee County school. – The essay should illustrate how this scholarship will support your educational journey.
In addition, the society offers the Mary McLeod Bethune Graduate Scholarship, providing funding of up to $4,000 for a graduate program of choice. **Eligibility for Graduate Scholarship:** – Students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher. – The application process begins on March 21, 2025, with a deadline of May 25, 2025, at 11:59 PM. **Application Submission:** – Ensure all materials are submitted on time—late submissions will not be accepted. Send your completed application and supporting materials to scholarships@tlcbhs.org.
**Graduate Level Requirements:** – Those applying for the Mary McLeod Bethune Graduate Scholarship must be enrolled in a graduate program. – Submit two letters of recommendation: one from a school official (teacher, coach, or staff) and another from an employer, minister, youth group leader, community coach, or a non-relative who can speak to your character. Ensure your complete application, including your acceptance letter and essay, is sent to scholarships@tlcbhs.org by the deadline.
**Selection Process:** – The selection committee will notify all applicants of their decision via email. Finalists will be celebrated at our Juneteenth event on Saturday, June 21, 2025. If a finalist cannot attend, please contact us promptly at scholarships@tlcbhs.org or call 239-332-8778.
